The Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster – The Royal SocietyRewind back when I was a youngster, watching MTV2 trying to take a grasp in life. One band that caught my eye was this band The Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster. It was the song Celebrate Your Mother. I thought “WTF!?!” but then Rise Of The Eagles came out and I bought this immediately after. Rise Of The Eagles was so awesome I couldn’t believe it.
I couldn’t find an.ehem. MP3 of it so my only option was buying the darn thing. So I did and pop it went into my mini CD player. The album feels better overall then Horse Of The Dog with this album approx 4 minutes and Horse Of The Dog just reaching over 25 minutes. Amazingly the difference is huge. The Royal Society is a more melodic (well, not that melodic but it’s slower and it takes it’s time) and Horse Of The Dog is more frantic sounding in a way. Like odd time signatures and just all crazy.This album is better though for a good hearty listen though Horse Of The Dog is good for the casual listen and parties and such.
Rise of The Eagles starts off with a drum-beat with Guy singing and then the bass comes in for a split second until the other instruments come in for it. While Guy has a repetitive chorus behind him singing “I want to fly like an eagle, I want to sing like a Sinatra, I got a date with destruction, I want to love like a mother.” This song is brilliant. The best part is at the end is when the chunky distorted bass comes in and Guy sings the chorus one more time. The Way Of The Men Of The Stuff is freaky.
It starts with Guy singing a verse but there is mechanical stuff in the background. There is some wacky guitar crap and it goes all normal again. Guy absolutely screams in the chorus.
It’s like he’s screaming in the Warfield. It breaks down to a little drum roll but the chorus comes in thick and heavy. This song gives you the biggest surprise because it’s at the end at it is so different than the others.
Recommended if you like heavy songs, other people beware!Puppy Dog Snails is a Oompah Lompah kind of song. It sounds like it really is being sang by them imaginary creature in Willy Wonka. While they are two people singing in the chorus which brings it out perfectly. You can really hear there English accent. Truly weird song. It has lots of weird sounds in it that I should write this off as “Industrial” but no, this is a good song but it is so weird and crazy.
Hailing from England, The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster (EMBLD for short) tried their best to deliver something new. They have achieved that. In-fact they have worked their butts off trying to get their music out but still have had no commercial success.
Since this album Andy Huxley has left the band. The band are still continuing without him but the new guitarist could never fill the void.74%Btw, you may notice my other account reviewed this too.
